Prématurité et parentalité

Abstract : Each year in France, 60,000 children are born prematurely, which represents 7% of total births. Of these births, 1,5% occur before 32 weeks of gestation. A qualitative study was carried out with the aim of collecting and studying the experiences of parents throughout the course of prematurity. The study was based on the Conception Hospital in Marseille. It was carried out with parents of children born between 28 and 34 weeks of gestation who returned home after hospitalization. They were selected on a voluntary basis. The results of the study, which analyzed the parental experience of antenatal hospitalization (if there was one) until the return home, show that parents encounter many difficulties in establishing the parent bond -Child in the context of a premature birth. In order to help them throughout this journey, these parents must receive optimal support from trained health professionals. Parents' feelings evolve throughout the course of prematurity. Parents are not all equal when faced with their child's situation and their experiences change according to the personal, medical and family context.
