Relation de soin en pédiatrie : quelles adaptations pour le masseur-kinésithérapeute ?

Abstract : Paediatric care is often studied in literature but rarely in regards to physiotherapy. Most researches explore specific techniques or pathologies without taking into account the sociological aspect of these treatments. The aim of this study was to determine the means by which physiotherapists adapt their care to suit this field. For this purpose, a qualitative study was carried out. Semi-directive interviews were done with six physiotherapists taking care of children in hospitals, rehabilitation centres or private practices. According to the professionals interviewed, a quality relationship with parents is essential in order to make them actors of the care. The care relationship with the child requires special skills such as empathy, imagination and observation. Moreover, the experience and training of the professionals help them in this rehabilitation, becoming more competent and confident over time. The themes addressed in this research are expensive and reflect the specific practices of each professional interviewed. The results cannot be extrapolated to a more general population but reflect major trends specific to paediatric care. Future research could be conducted on a broader panel, or in specific areas of paediatrics.
