Étude qualitative de l’évaluation de la douleur chez les nourrissons lors des soins de masso-kinésithérapie dans le Finistère

Abstract : Despite the development of tools for objective assessment of infant pain over the past twenty years, caregivers, pediatricians and nurses, subjectively assess and still underestimate the pain of these pre-verbal children. This work aims to carry out an overview of physiotherapist practices, in the department of Finistère (29), concerning the pain appraisal in infants during care. A qualitative survey was carried out through semi-structured interviews focused on ten physiotherapists with a predominantly pediatric patient base, including infants. Physiotherapists search, through careful observation of infants, for behavioral signs suggestive of pain during the sessions. They complete their observations by collecting the parents' perception and asking them to determine an etiological cause. No physiotherapist objectified the pain of infants through a hetero-evaluation. The induced pain does not spare physiotherapy procedures. However, the literature is faulty to know the techniques specifically concerned. To prevent or limit the induced pain, physiotherapists set up means of pain management, and other distress emotions related to pain.
