Quel a été l'impact de la pandémie de SARS-COV-2 sur les pratiques professionnelles des médecins généralistes en matière d'hygiène ? Enquête auprès des médecins généralistes des Alpes-Maritimes (06)

Abstract : Background: questionnaire surveys have shown that the application of hygiene guidelines was insufficient among family practitioners. CoronaVirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to an unprecedented change in these practices.
Methods: the purpose of this study was to describe the hygiene habits of general practitioners in the Alpes-Maritimes before and after the pandemic. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was carried out in September 2020. Descriptive and statistical analyses were performed. Evaluation scores for hygiene practices in general medicine have been proposed.
Results : 72 out of 138 doctors answered, 43% before and 78% after the pandemic, often or always performed hand hygiene before and after examining a patient (p < .001). 69% before and 35% after, favored handwashing with soap (p < .001). 29% before and 63% after, often or always respected the recommended duration for hydroalcoholic friction (p < .001). 35% before and 97% after wore a mask if they had symptoms of respiratory disease (p < .001). 4% before and 90% after made symptomatic patients wear it. 34% before and 87% after often or always disinfect their stethoscope (p < .001); respectively 8% and 60% as regards the blood pressure cuff; 15% and 92% regarding the disinfection of frequently touched surfaces. Since the pandemic, 76% had performed consultations by appointment, 69% had set up teleconsultation, 90% limited the number of patients or time spent in waiting room, 88% identified those with suspicious symptoms and 83% isolated them.
Conclusion: there has been an improvement in hygiene in general practice. However, progress remains to be made. These improvements could be transitory; a reassessment of practices at a distance from the pandemic should be considered.
