Évaluation de la gêne du personnel des urgences de Bergerac et de Marmande vis-a-vis de l'environnement sonore de leur lieu de travail

Abstract : Introduction: noisiness is one of the main environmental threat for human health. Taking account of environmental noise at work is a crucial issue owing to its potential numerous consequences. The aim of this study was to estimate the discomfort experienced by the staff of the emergency services at Bergerac and Marmande hospitals, regarding the environmental noise of their workplace. Tools and methods: it was a quantitative observational investigation carried out with a multicentric Likert scale at the emergency services and receptions of Bergerac and Marmande hospitals, based on a 30 day period (from Friday 1 June 2018 to Monday 2 July 2018) during the day shift. All the employees of the emergency services at Bergerac and Marmande working the day shift were given a questionnaire that collected some population features and that estimated the staff's environmental noise and the consequences felt in terms of discomfort and healthwise. Results: 112 questionnaires were handed out and 65 of them were analysed. For 50,8 % of the people surveyed, the discomfort regarding the environmental noise at work is real, and for 49,2 % of the people surveyed, it is absent. The major discomfort caused by the noise for the staff resulted in some difficulty to concentrate, in tiredness, irritability, edginess, and headaches. 74,4% of Marmande emergency service eployees were disturbed by the environmental noise and 15,4 % of Bergerac emergency service employees were disturbed by the noise. Conclusion: more than half of the employees working at Bergerac and Marmande emergency services was disturbed by the environmental noise, and some of them could feel the impact on their work. The employees in Marmande were more disturbed by the noise than the ones of Bergerac. Some organisational and architectural alterations could lessen the discomfort caused by the noise in the emergency services and could therefore increase the quality of work life.
