Le télédépistage au service des soins bucco-dentaires en EHPAD: de l'idée au projet

Abstract : French population’s access to oral and dental care is affected by geographical and social disparities. The elderly suffering from a loss of autonomy are the most impacted by them. Healthcare staff in nursing are often neglecting the surveillance and monitoring of oral health. The low number of liberal dentists in some departments, such as Dordogne, and the difficulty of bringing dependent elderly people into dental offices are obstacles to their oral care. The consequences are numerous: infectious pathologies, undernutrition, drop in self esteem , fewer social interactions. Succesive governements, willing to respond to this global issue, are constantly putting in place policies for the develoyment of telemedecine. In order to promote access to preventice and curative oral care for nursing residents odontology teleexpertise have been offered at Périgueux hospital. The project: odontology remote monitoring for elderly in Dordogne’s nursing homes should optimize the quality of care thanks to the speed of interactions. We offer specifications summarizing the organizational plan for the implementation of this project based on the work experience we have acquired. Remote odontology is an organizational and technical response to the many epidemiological, demographic and economic challenges that the health system is currently facing.
