Le régime social britannique en temps de crise économique : enjeux théoriques et politiques

Abstract : This dissertation focuses on the evolutions of the British welfare-state in a context of economic recession (2008-2014). The first chapter dwells on the epistemology of welfare regimes, in particular on the part that economic context and political actors play regarding the shaping of social policy. This theoretical development is followed by a discursive analysis of interventions surrounding the Welfare Reform Act (2012) in the media and a sociological study of a campaign led by patients opposing the closure of a mental health centre in cambridge (United-Kingdom), 2014. What is at stake is essentially the conflictual and dynamic nature of the British welfare regime. The political struggles shaping it have to do with its material organisation, as well as with the ethical principles it relies on and the very definition of what counts as political.
