Spes Augusta dans la propagande monétaire flavienne

Abstract : The present study is based on the alloy of the semantic and the numismatic field of study and is concerned with the examination of the symbolism and the function of the Roman value Spes in the context of the monetary propaganda of the Flavian dynasty. In the first place, a linguistic study of the lexeme spes is carried out so that its meaning can be clarified. In the second place, the function of divinized Spes is examined in the religious and political context from its appearance in the Roman cult until the end of the Julian-Claudian dynasty. The role of Spes during the propaganda of the Julio-Claudians and its association with the essential motifs, which appear on their coins, are analyzed. In the third place, the events of the four emperors, which led to the ascension of Vespasian and their monetary production are examined. Finally, the association of Spes with the Flavians is analyzed not only in the literary framework, but especially in the monetary context, which is placed in the center of this study.
