Pré-élargissement canalaire en endodontie : clarification terminologique et implications cliniques

Abstract : In the last few years, endodontic practice has been marked by the development of single-file systems. Concomitantly a renewed interest in canal preflaring (CPF) was observed and numerous “glide path files” or “mechanical instruments for preflaring” were developed. Their goals would be to facilitate the root canal’s shaping and improve its quality, considering the discrepancy between the important diameter and taper of single-file systems and the initial diameter of unprepared canals. This work first aimed to clarify the terminological and technical aspects of CPF. The second goal was to present a non-systematic literature review evaluating the effect of mechanical glide path on 4 parameters chosen for their clinical impact : files separation, canal transportation, apical debris extrusion and operating time.
