Formation à la rééducation périnéale vue par les étudiant-e-s sages-femmes

Abstract : Introduction: The basic Pelvic floor rehabilitation skill remains one of the main midwife activities, especially in liberal exercise. As many graduated midwives however train themselves later to this practice, it logically makes sense to analyze the initial training about it. Study design: An online questionnaire was sent to the future graduates from 11 French midwifery schools in order to gather information about their theoretical and practical training in perineal rehabilitation, and to assess their feeling of competence, of being habilitated. Results: The training strengths are strong prerequisites and competent teachers. Three quarters of the 95 participants feel that they did not have enough education on perineal rehabilitation. They point out a lack of practice, which has been correlated with the students’ feeling of competence. The evaluation on the perineal rehabilitation is not systematic. Most of the students do not feel able to perform an independent session after graduation. Discussion: There are inequalities in terms of theoretical teachings and internship experience between the students. To organize sessions of simulation would help training the students. A midwifery students’ skills systematic assessment on perineal rehabilitation would ensure their ability to practice it. Conclusion: It would be useful to standardize the perineal rehabilitation’s initial training of midwives at a national scale, by offering sufficient theoretical contributions and practical internships. The evaluation of skills specific to the practice of perineal rehabilitation is essential.
