Utilité du dosage de la ferritine sérique chez l’adulte en médecine générale : une revue systématique de la littérature (hyperferritinémie)

Abstract : Serum levels of ferritin are commonly measured to assess body iron stores. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the utility of this measure in adults in primary care. The databases Medline, Google Scholar and Cochrane Library were screened by two independent investigators, to identify 1951 references to which 65 were added. A total of 71 studies and 10 recommendations were identified for final analysis. Screening iron deficiency in women of childbearing age is useful, and its frequency depends on some risk factors. In other cases, systematic measure of serum ferritin, however, appear to be irrelevant : the most frequent causes of hyperferritinemia (metabolic syndrome, cytolysis, inflammatory syndrome, alcoholism, liver diseases) are easily identified with clinical examination and several laboratory tests ; besides its role of predictor is not defined.
