Thermocompactage mécanique pur ou monocône-ciments biocéramiques : quelle technique choisir pour obtenir une obturation canalaire tridimensionnelle ?

Abstract : Aim: the purpose of this study is to compare the radiographic quality of root fillings obtained by two different obturation techniques: pure mechanical gutta percha thermocompaction or the single cone technique associated with bioceramics. Material and Methods: 28 single-rooted teeth were prepared using the Protaper Gold® system (Dentsply). Two groups of 14 teeth were formed: group A filled by mechanical thermocompaction + zinc oxide eugenol cement, group B filled by single cone technique + BiorootRCS®. Using a questionnaire, 43 practitioners teaching in the Department of Restorative Odontology and Endodontics or members of the French Society of Endodontics Aquitaine gave a score to the obturation in the apical 1/3, the coronal 2/3 and the overall filling. Results: statistically, the teeth in group A were rated better for the apical 1/3 and the overall filling, and the teeth in group B were rated better for the coronal 2/3. Conclusion: within the limits of this study, we can conclude that although the teeth filled by mechanical thermocompaction get a better average score than the teeth of group B at the level of the apical 1/3 and the global obturation, the differences in the averages are so small that they do not allow to translate the superiority of one technique over the other in terms of root canal filling.
