Évaluation du patient aphasique bilingue : état des lieux des pratiques orthophoniques au regard de la littérature scientifique

Abstract : A specific and adapted speech therapy assessment is required for bilingual aphasic patients. The objective of this dissertation is to propose an inventory of French speech and language therapy practices for the assessment of bilingual aphasic patients in the post-acute and chronic phases and to compare these practices with recommendations from the scientific literature. A cross-sectional survey (online questionnaire) was conducted among 381 French speech therapists who had already treated aphasic patients. The results of the survey show that speech therapists’ knowledge of bilingualism is not homogeneous, that their practices do not systematically correspond to theoretical recommendations, and that there is a significant lack of resources available to assess these patients. This study highlights an urgent need for adjustment and standardization of speech therapy practices in the assessment of bilingual aphasic patients.
