Méthode de recrutement pour un programme d’éducation thérapeutique en ville : état des lieux et expérimentation sur le programme POLIPATO (POLIPACOM)

Abstract : Introduction: building a lasting out-patient therapeutic patient education (TPE) program can only be achieved with a steady recruitment of new patients, which prove to be the main challenge. Objective: the objective of this study was to increase the number of new patients included in the POLIPATO TPE program in 2020 compared to the previous couple years, by developing a new recruitment method. Method: after the development of new communication materials, active promotion about the program was carried out with health professionals (general practitioners (GPs), pharmacists, nurses) in the Entre-Deux-Mers area. Four days dedicated to recruitment were set up over two consecutive months: professionals were invited to briefly propose the program to any patient meeting the inclusion criteria. If interested, the patient was called back by a PhD student to get a more detail presentation of the program and answer some questions. If the patient agreed, he was given an appointment to receive an educational diagnosis (ED) and to be included in the program. Results: over the four days, 100 patients were referred (89 by GPs, 8 by nurses, 3 by pharmacists), among which 29 were included. In 2020, the number of patients included increased by 50% compared to 2018 and 44.4% compared to 2019. Conclusion: this recruitment method has proven to be effective. However, there was a majority participation of general practitioners. Alternative recruitment method should be sought for pharmacists and nurses.
