Impact de différentes modalités d’activité physique sur la croissance du cancer de la prostate et la cachexie associée. Mise en place d’un protocole expérimental sur des souris

Abstract : Prostate cancer is a very common cancer, it ranks 1st in terms of incidence in men and 3rd in terms of mortality. The practice of physical activity (PA) is introduced in the management of this cancer, the benefits on survival as well as on physical capacities are well known. However, there are disparities between the differents types of prostate cancer and there is no data to date on the most favorable PA modalities for this cancer. This dissertation aims to investigate the different impacts that two different PA modalities may have on cancer and associated cachexia. Athymic nude mice received PPC-1 cancer cells subcutaneously and were divided into 3 different groups. One group of control cancer mice (CaCTL), a second group of cancer mice doing voluntary wheel exercise (CaPA), and a third group of cancer mice doing treadmill exercise (CaET). We added a fourth group of healthy mice. We observed a slowing of tumor growth in the CaET group, whereas wheel-based PA did not provide any benefit on tumor growth. The training also helped to maintain the fat mass of the mice. We also observed better maintenance of muscle strength in the CaET group, more so than the CaPA group. Thus, training seems to have a greater benefit than exercise on the wheel, whether it is on the tumor, on the body composition but also on the physical capacities, thus on the cachexia.
