La maltraitance des enfants et des adolescents, rôle du chirurgien-dentiste

Abstract : Child abuse is a major health public issue. This global scourge is poorly assessed. The Lancet estimates that 10% of children are abused in developed countries. France would not escape the under-reporting of child abuse. The cephalic zone is an area frequently affected in child abuse. The dentist, by means of his medical specialty, is on the front line to screen lesions caused by maltreatment. Signs of child abuse suspicion can be detected during medical history, exo-oral examination, endo-oral examination or observing child’s behaviour. The objective of this thesis is to review the different forms of child abuse, diagnostic tools, as well as the dentist’s role in identification of child abuse and dentist’s role in reporting.
