L'intérêt de la céphalométrie dans le choix de la détermination de la dimension verticale d'occlusion

Abstract : The determination of the therapeutical Vertical Dimension of Occlusion (VDO) is a real challenge for practitioners because its definition is not a precise numerical value but it is considered as a range of comfort. This range of comfort is dependent on the skeletal typology, the aesthetics of the face while respecting an efficient dental function. It is possible to play with the VDO on an area of some millimeters only if it’s variation is done in Centric Relation (CR). Thanks to the help of a single cephalometric study, the use of the CADO software allows a decision making help in a global management of the patient during the realization of extensive prosthetic projects; from the determination of the OVD to the decision concerning the occlusal plane. The software is based on the study of the statistical correlation of several variables between the shape of the mandible and the lower facial height using simple regression formulas.
