Le sous-titrage du documentaire ethnographique : considérations théoriques et application

Abstract : Through the study of audiovisual translation theories, especially subtitling along with intercultural and anthropologic translation, our research arouses the question of ethnographic documentary subtitling. The observation of practical case of translation, from Brazilian Portuguese to French, with the documentary Samba de Cacete –Alvorada Quilombola allowingusto give an overview to translation studies about our subject, particularly the source and target oriented ones. Technical and ethical considerations lead us to criticize strategies of existing translations and to propose a new subtitling method for this movie. Indeed, thanks to empirical analysis of different methods on our study object, we deduce a hierarchization of the translation criteria applicable to this one. Our research about the systematization of translation in the studied documentary is incorporated within a larger framework in order to establish a methodology to subtitle ethnographic documentaries.
