Modes de déplacement domicile-travail et état de santé chez les agents de l’Université de Bordeaux

Abstract : Introduction: The University of Bordeaux has 5,890 employees, with varied socio-professional cha-racteristics. The home-work commute is one of the levers available to influence the amount of physical activity and sedentary time of workers. Objective: To draw up an inventory of the health of the agents of the University of Bordeaux and to compare the state of health of the agents of the University of Bordeaux according to the mode of transport to and from work (bicycle versus other modes of travel). Method: A self-administered electronic questionnaire was sent by e-mail to all the employees of the University of Bordeaux. The questions concerned the mode of commuting, socio-professional characte-ristics, assessment of the level of sedentary behaviour and physical activity using the IPAQ question-naire, and assessment of physical and mental health using the SF-36 questionnaire. Results: 995 responses were analysed. The comparison of health scores from the SF-36 questionnaire, cycling versus other modes of transport, showed significantly higher scores in all domains for workers travelling by bicycle, except for limitations due to mental state. Some social characteristics such as gender and education level were also significantly different (p<0.001). Conclusion: The significant differences found do not allow us to establish a causal link with the mode of commuting.
