La consultation gynécologique auprès des femmes autistes : l’approche des professionnels spécialisés

Abstract : In France, thousands of women are concerned by autism. These women, with irregular follow-ups, have multiple misidentified gynecological needs. However, the gynecology consultation with these women struggling with interpersonal relations is complex to achieve. A specialized approach is more than necessary but very few caregivers are trained in autism spectrum disorders. The objectives of our study were to identify adaptation methods to autism used by specialized health professionals and to spot autistic women’s gynecological needs. We have chosen to undertake a qualitative and a multicenter study based on ten semi-structured interviews with midwifes, gynecologists and general doctors specialized in gynecology. The results have showed that various tools, medications, and human sciences are extremely useful in dealing with autism. Concerning women’s needs, some are generals, and some others are more specifics such as the taking care of violences. The training of caregivers from their student life, the establishment of a disability network in gynecology and prevention’s interventions in institutions might be possible solutions to answer the autistic women’s needs.
