Enquête de pratique auprès des médecins du sport et des médecins généralistes du Béarn et de la Soule, lors de la consultation de non contre-indication à la pratique sportive, en compétition, chez les 12-35 ans

Abstract : Background: the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends a 12 point clinical exam and the French Society of Cardiology (SFC) recommends that pre-participation cardiovascular screening for young competitive athletes every three years between the ages of 12 to 20, and every five years between 20 to 35, to improve screening for cardiovascular diseases at risk of sudden death. Objectives: compare the practice of sports physicians (SP) and general practitioners (GP), during the consultation allowing the practice of sports, in accordance with the recommendations of the AHA and the SFC. Identify other influencing factors. Method: survey of 19 SP and 54 GP in Béarn et Soule, taking the form of a double questionnaire given from August 2019 and collected until May 2020 Results: 8 SP and 16 GP responded to the survey. 100% of SP and 50% of GP claimed to know the recommendations of the AHA and the SFC. SP have realized 52,50% and GP have realized 8,75% consulting allowing the practice of sports comply with these recommendations. Consultation’s duration, use of the questionnaire and the sole reason for consultations are most often founds in compliant consultation. They are performed by younger and athletic doctors, and they have an SP colleague. Sport discipline, gender or age of young competitive athletes wasn’t criteria for achievement or not. 8 certificates (6,67%) were issued although a specialist opinion was requested Conclusion: too few consultations comply with AHA and SFC recommendations. In the future, clear and reproducible recommendations, the use of a questionnaire, a fully dedicated consultation, and the end to trivialization would make it possible to improve this preventive act.
