La représentation émotionnelle en fonction du genre dans la production d’un dessin expressif

Abstract : The sexual identity that a child builds up troughout their development allows them to gradually shape their personality, as well as their social and emotional skills. Influenced by numerous social factors, the child’s personality builds itself around gender patterns defined by the behaviors that social ways accept or not, thus modeling the child’s development. Therefore, this study takes a particular interest in the development of emotional recognition depending on the child’s gender. Taking drawing – an activity appreciated by children but also complex, since it triggers emotional processes in the child – as a study support, our research relies upon the production of drawings representing happy and sad stick figures. The theme of stick figures, through its human figuration, is an ideal base for the graphic analysis of emotional expressions. Analyzing the production of drawings labeled as "expressive" made by three age of groups of children – of 3, 5 and 7-year-old – it appears that emotional expression develops differently depending on the child’s gender, girls performing better than boys in terms of production of emotional graphic markers.
