Bibliothérapie : « le livre sur ordonnance » en tant qu'outil thérapeutique et de prévention en médecine générale ? Enquête de pratique et d'opinion auprès des médecins généralistes en France

Abstract : BACKGROUND. BBT seems efficient as a tool for care and prevention in mental health. Its use in general medecine is, however, for now, too little known in France. We aimed to gather quantitative datas about BBT practices, opinions and knowledge of GP in France, and about their opinion on the use of this tool in their daily practice. METHODS. An online self-administered questionnaire was submitted from november 15th to december 30th 2020 to french GP. Datas were analyzed by gender, seniority of practice, annual personnal reading, knowledges of BBT, their therapeutic benefit from reading, difficulties in the prescription and opinion on a BBT training. FINDINGS. Out of 195 GPs, only 12% ever heard of BBT before, 43% already read a book that brought them a therapeutic benefit, 63% were in favor of practicing BBT and 26% already suggested a reading to a patient. For 62% of them, their patients litteracy level was adapted to BBT and it was achievable for 58%, on condition to read before advisiving it (94%) and 81% would be ready to do so, but for 93% a book directory would be useful. 63% were interested in a BBT training, 60% found this prescription difficult, main reasons were lack of BBT’s knowledge, understanding and evaluation of the patient, lack of time during and out of practice time, the risk of loosing credibility and the adjustment to their patients. CONCLUSION. The practice of BBT could be encouraged to be better known, used and widespread for a better care of mental health issues in general medecine, which the rate is increasing.
