Soluble urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor (suPAR) as a prognostic biomarker in cardiogenic shock: a prospective observational pilot study

Abstract : Background: despite improving the management of cardiogenic shock, the morbidity and mortality rate remain high. Inflammation is firmly established in genesis and complications of cardiovascular diseases. The soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) has proven to strongly evaluate prognosis in stable heart failure (HF). Our objective was to evaluate the suPAR prognostic performance in patients with cardiogenic shocks on global mortality. Methods: we collected biologics data including suPAR level in every patient admitted in Cardiac Intensive Care Unit or in Intensive Care Unit who suffered from cardiogenic shock from May 2020 to December 2020. The primary endpoint was a composite of death of any cause, heart transplant or long-term cardiac assist devices requirement. Results: 51 patients were included in the statistical analysis. The mean age was 63 years, with 72,5% of men. SuPAR level was not significantly associated with predictive mortality, cardiac transplant or long-term assist devices requirement. Conclusion: the suPAR biomarker failed to evaluate the prognosis of patients admitted for cardiogenic shock.
