Portrait intime de la division allemande : exploitation de la bande dessinée drüben ! (2009) de Simon Schwartz en classe de seconde

Abstract : The history of the divided Germany into two countries, which is examined in textbooks, reports and documentaries, turns out to be a topic that is broadly and well known. Nevertheless, the splitting between the two countries seems to be remote and unapproachable for teenagers and the youngest. The comic book represents a popular medium but its use as an object and material on the purpose of teaching remains rare. drüben! (2009) by Simon Schwartz depicts a unique portrait of this period of history: through his family's journey, he offers a new kind of narrative with his point of view as an East German by using the comic book. With this individual and collective memory transmission, we can ask ourselves in what way the historical comic book lends to an innovative didactical handover around the topic of the divided Germany. The academic part will hilghlight the specificities of drüben!, especially the historical story, the narrative approach and the relation between text and image while the pedagogical part will be devoted to the adaptation as a teaching sequence, the analysis of the works by the students and a consideration about a future application in class.
