Caractéristiques sociodémographiques et sanitaires des patients d’une Permanence d’accès aux soins de santé (PASS) sur l’Ile de la Réunion

Abstract : The creation of the Permanent Access to Health Care (PASS) in 1998 made it possible to provide medico-social support in French hospitals for people in precarious situations. In Reunion, this system was set up at the Saint Denis University Hospital in 2000. For the first time, a study describe the socio-demographic and health profile of patients consulting in this PASS. This was a descriptive study by retrospective collection of data from social and medical forms of all patients who consulted at the PASS of Saint Denis de la Réunion in 2019. Descriptive analyzes and two analyzes in sub-group according to the context of arrival and place of consultation were carried out. The typical patient was a French man, aged 38 on average. Among the foreign patients, 9 out of 10 come from the Indian Ocean. More than half of the patients had open rights to social security. In the medical form, the percentage of chronic pathologies was the same as in the general population. Dermatological trouble was the main medical problem encountered. In multivariate analysis, the patients who arrived within the framework of an EVASAN were mainly women, of Comorian origin, without social security coverage, more frequently suffering from chronic pathologies. At the Boutique Solidarité of the Abbé Pierre Foundation, patients were more frequently homeless, consulted the social worker for accommodation and financial problems, and more often had their rights up to date. Alcohol and tobacco use were more often found in these patients. The profiles of patients consulting at the PASS of Saint Denis de La Réunion are different from those traditionally consulting in the metropolitan PASS.
