Abstract : Dry Needling is a technique recently used in France characterized by the introduction of a filiform needle through the skin to the myofascial trigger point. This therapy is used to treat myofascial syndrome defined as the presence of active trigger points causing referred pain associated with sensory, motor and vegetative symptoms. The aim of this study is to assess the short-term effects of Dry Needling on pain, strength, range of motion and disability in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. Method : a non-systematic review was made. Pubmed, Cochrane and PEDro databases were quiered. 3 randomized controlled trials were included deals with the short-term effects of Dry Needling vs. other therapies in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. Result : dry Needling improved the symptomatology of patients in the short-term for pain intensity, range of motion, pressure pain threshold, disability and force production. However, there was no difference in improvement with comparative therapies. Discussion-Conclusion : dry Needling does not show superior improvement on the various criteria evaluated in the short-term compared to other therapies. However, it is an interesting tool available to the therapist in a multimodal approach to treat myofascial pain syndrome in the short term.
