Étude quantitative sur le vécu des femmes ayant bénéficié d’une IVG médicamenteuse en ambulatoire : différences entre une prise en charge à domicile et à l’hôpital

Abstract : Introduction: this work wells on the experience of women who have been through a medical abortion in ambulatory care. In medical literature, there are only a handful works in which authors have directly asked women about their experience. The goal of this research was to display differences between these women’s experiences whether the medical abortion happened at home or in a day hospital. Method: to answer the problem, an anonymous questionnaire was given out to patients who had been through a medical abortion at home or in a day hospital. This questionnaire was written based on themes that were found in qualitative thesis that tackled the subject and, as a result, based on the women’s remarks. A descriptive and quantitative study has been realized on each of the samples in order to compare the results with the data in pre-existing literature. Results: the thesis’ results show that the factors that influenced the most the experience of the respondents were how difficult it was to access to a voluntary termination of pregnancy, the important number of people they had to speak to and the ultrasound before the abortion. The patients were globally satisfied with the way they were taken care of. This level of satisfaction was probably linked to the fact that they could choose the place and method of their abortion. Conclusion: with these results, a few propositions were made to improve the experience of women going through a medical abortion in ambulatory care such as listing the health professionals who carried out abortion at home on a website that would be easily accessible, creating discussion groups where women could share their experience and training health professionals to perform medical abortion by making them conscious of the importance of the type of behavior they should carry out to improve the experience of those women (listening, empathy, delivering clear and realistic information).
