Évaluation de l’impact de l’activité physique sur la qualité de vie de patients souffrant de bronchopneumopathie chronique obstructive : étude réalisée au sein de la section Sport Santé de l’association de l’Aviron Bayonnais

Abstract : Introduction: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a pathology frequently encountered in general medicine and a source of significant morbidity and mortality. Respiratory rehabilitation, of which physical activity is the main component, has been shown to improve the health of patients in the short and medium term. This support is often intensed with a physical activity multi-weekly practice and for a short duration (6 to 12 weeks). On the territory, the distribution of centers practicing is uneven and the offer cannot currently meet the significant demand. The main objective of this study is in purpose to assess the impact of the physical activity practiced in the health sport section of “Aviron Bayonnais” on the quality of life of patients' life, suffering from COPD over a period of 12 at 52 weeks. Material and Method: this is a single-center, prospective quantitative evaluation study. The evaluation aimed to observe the impact of the routine intervention consisting in the practice of a supervised physical activity lasting 1h15 twice a week. The quality of life was assessed by the Saint George questionnaire on a quarterly basis. Results: 24 patients were followed during a period of 3 to 12 months between January 1, 2020 and February 13, 2021. The study included 11 women and 13 men, the average age was 67.5 years and 33% of patients suffered from stage 1 COPD, 50% stage 2, 13% stage 3 and 4% stage 4. The study shows a significant improvement (p <0.001) about the quality of life from 3 months of activity, with maintenance of these acquired up to 12 months. Conclusion: this study underlines that the practice of a physical activity up to two sessions of 1h15 per week carried out within the health sport section of “Aviron Bayonnais” allows an improvement in the quality of life of patients suffering from COPD from 12 weeks. These results are similar to those found in the literature after respiratory rehabilitation carried out in a specialized center. A less intense but prolonged practice seems to be able to be offered as an alternative to respiratory rehabilitation in a specialized center when this is not feasible.
