Étude TGV : transplantation rénale et grands voyages : étude observationnelle multicentrique de la mobilité des patients transplantés rénaux

Abstract : Background. Organ transplantation provides longer survival and better quality of life compared to dialysis. The aim of the study was to assess the mobility of kidney transplant patients. Method: Among all the patients who received a single kidney transplant in 12 Spiesser centers (out of 13) between 01/01/2008 and 31/12/2017, 1200 patients were selected at random. Each of these patients received a survey assessing travels in France and abroad, before and after their transplant procedure. Results. 515 patients answered. The mean age of the patients at transplantation was 51± 13 years (62.8% male). 81.9% of patients were on dialysis before transplantation. The random selection was correct, but responders were more often female, older and more often pre-emptive transplant recipients. More patients travelled after transplantation than before. The median time between transplantation and the first trip to France was 242 days, compared to 496 days for the first trip abroad. The main reason for travelling in France and abroad was leisure and tourism. More than half of the patients (55.4%) had no fears during their trips. A pre-travel consultation took place for 64.9% of patients. The percentage of ill-patients during travel was 19.2%. The 2 main complications were urinary tract infection and diarrhea. 86% of the patients were satisfied with their travel since the transplant. Conclusion. Kidney transplant patients travel as much as the general population. Some patients do not travel by fear and appropriate advice could allow them to travel.
