L'impact de l'environnement sur la performance occupationnelle des patients atteints de symptômes psycho-comportementaux des démences en institution

Abstract : Introduction: The environment is an important factor in the management of people with psychobehavioral symptoms of dementia. The purpose of this study was to determine whether occupational therapists consider the environment to improve the occupational performance of people with psychobehavioral symptoms in institutions. Method: A questionnaire was distributed to 38 occupational therapists who met the inclusion criteria. Seven of them responded and the data could be analyzed cross-sectionally and longitudinally, then discussed and compared with the literature. Results: Occupational therapists take into account the environment in a global care. The data collected correspond for the most part to the recommendations in the literature. Conclusion: Occupational therapists assess the patients' previous environment in order to meet their needs and to allow meaningful activities to be developed. They also evaluate the environment in the reception facilities to enable people to participate in the proposed activities, and consequently improve their occupational performance.
