Évaluation du volume osseux palatin chez les patients bénéficiant de distraction orthopédique assistée par minivis

Abstract : Recent advances in three-dimensional imaging (especially cone-beam volume tomography or CBCT) allow us to explore the degree of ossification of the palatal sutures (especially the midline suture) and to proceed, if necessary, to an orthopedic distraction. Assisted by mini screws, this procedure requires us to make a reasoned choice to assess local anatomical conditions (thickness of the palatal cortical bone, location of the nasal septum, etc). In this context, we propose to discuss the most relevant parameters of the radiological examination for the installation of palatal mini-screws. After a brief anatomical review of the palatal region, we suggest a reasoned approach for the quantitative evaluation of this cortical, ideal implantation sites as well as precautions to be considered to minimize the risk of failure inherent in the technique.
