Collaboration entre ergothérapeute et aides-soignants : autonomie dans la vie quotidienne pour prévenir le risque de grabatisation en EHPAD

Abstract : Introduction: The current increase in the aging of the population implies an increase in the number of people entering retirement homes in the years to come. Maintaining autonomy is therefore essential in order to promote the quality of life of the elderly people. Thus, the goal of this dissertation was to highlight the means that can be put in place to maintain autonomy in retirement homes through the collaboration between occupational therapists (OT) and nursing assistants (NA). Methods: A qualitative and quantitative study was carried out with two questionnaires through statistical data processing. 49 OT and 8 NA working in retirement homes answered the questionnaires concerning their professional practice around the subject of autonomy in the activities of daily living and the potential collaboration between them. Results: The results of this study showed that 75% of the NA interviewed worked in collaboration with the OT and, conversely 100% of the OT interviewed worked in collaboration with the NA. However, in both cases, collaboration was very limited in activities of daily living: 16.7% for the NA and 65.3% for the OT. In their daily practice, NA generally maintained the residents' autonomy, unless the residents did not want to or were physically unable to do so. Finally, OT and NA were in favour of working together to improve the residents' autonomy. Conclusion: Maintaining autonomy is a current goal in retirement homes but is subject to various constraints. More collaboration between OT and NA could further promote the residents' autonomy in the activity of daily living.
