La Mesure Canadienne du Rendement Occupationnel : un levier pour l'engagement en rééducation des patients anosognosiques présentant une lésion cérébrale acquise ?

Abstract : Background: Unawareness reduces the patient’s involvement in rehabilitation, which affects their recovery in many ways. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) is a validated client-centred instrument used by Occupational Therapists (OT). This study aimed to assess the use of COPM with patients suffering from unawareness with an acquired brain injury to increase their involvement in rehabilitation. Method: Through an online questionnaire, eleven OT working in rehabilitation were interviewed about their intervention, conceptual models and the advantages of using COPM with unawareness. Results: Every OT interviewed had already worked with this symptom and most of them used real-life situations during their sessions. Seven OT used COPM (7/11) but only five (5/11) of them used it with unawareness. Finally, 80% of them said that COPM improved the involvement in rehabilitation by highlighting meaningful objectives, improving motivation and enabling the follow-up of unawareness and its evolution. Conclusion: COPM could improve the involvement in rehabilitation with unawareness. Other studies must be done with more professionals and during the hospitalisation to detail more specifically the reasons of this improvement and demonstrate how COPM can impact this symptom.
