Les freins à la vaccination anti-HPV

Abstract : Goals Persistent infection with the human papillomavirus, also known by the acro-nym HPV, a sexually transmitted virus is the cause of many cancers in wom-en and men today. An effective vaccine exists to protect young girls and boys from this virus. Unfortunately, when we compare our results with our European neighbors, French protection remains weak. Vaccination cover-age thus stands at 23.7%. (1) One of the objectives of public health policies is to raise this vaccination rate, in order to ensure larger protection. The ob-jective of our study is to understand the obstacles that general practitioners may encounter in their anti-HPV vaccination practices and to identify possi-ble levers of action to allow greater vaccination coverage in France. Methods We set up a study based on semi-structured individual interviews with 16 general practitioners practicing in Île-de-France. These interviews took place between July 2020 and November 2020. Results HPV vaccination is an atypical vaccination because of its approach to sexu-ality and its theme around cancer. She suffers from widespread mistrust of vaccines and does not always enjoy good press. These different elements make it difficult to approach by professionals who feel overwhelmed and not always sufficiently helped by the public health authorities. However, the pre-scriber holds a prominent place in vaccine acceptance.
