Estime de soi et élèves en difficulté scolaire

Abstract : This study intends to identify if some global self-esteem differences exist depending on the level of success at school. In other words, the way by a child will evaluate himself in differents daily life domains comparing to his schoolfriends is interested in. Thus, 56 pupils aged from 8 to 12 took a self-assessment questionary based on the social comparisons. The aim was to show that a pupil with school difficulties would assess himself with less worth than a child with school success. Moreover, a pupil with school difficulties who have a special support from a teacher specializing in pedagogy would have a higher self-esteem than a pupil who do not have a such support. Pupils with school difficulties who have a special support from a teacher specializing in pedagogy are considered to be better supported so as to deal with the difficulties and the interindividuals or intergroups relationships in the class environment. Results do not confirm these hypothesis. However a difference is observed in the cognitive dimension of self-esteem. Therefore this research allows to going about the interactions between self-esteem and school success and to mention the role of mediatory components.
