Adaptation d'un modèle de prévision des risques de sclérotiniose à la culture du haricot

Abstract : Scleorinia sclerotiorum is a plant pathogen that causes significant economic losses on French bean (4.8 M€ in 2009). Sclerotinia can cause damage to 400 plant species. For 10 years, disease pressure has been increasing. Sprays of fungicide are very important for the control of the disease. The creation of model can help farmers to follow disease risk, to decide if it is useful or not to spray and to reduce the number of sprays. SYNGENTA AGRO wants to adapt a forecasting model of disease risk on oilseed rape to French bean. The model simulates soil climate conditions (soil matric potential and temperature), development of the apothecia and ascospore release, and crop flowering. Diagnostic tests based on a measured proportion of French bean flowers infected by S. sclerotiorum were realized for 89 fields to compare field infections with the infections simulated by the model. Disease incidence was measured for each field at harvest. A disease incidence threshold value was determined with the Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The threshold value 30% of infected petals was chosen to recommend protective sprays of fungicide. If the diagnostic tests are a good indicator of the final disease incidence, the model systematically recommends a spray to farmers. This model is not functional. The model can be improved by decreasing the value of the parameter 'inoculum quantity', crop rotation and biological control of the disease could be accounted for by a reduction or augmentation of this value.
