La compréhension de l'espace dans les enquêtes de mobilité et de transport

Abstract : After the World War Two, considering the growth and the democratisation of the car use, the authorities have shown a strong interest for people's mobility so as to make some traffic projections. The aim of these authorities was to have a better idea of the traffic quality in order to reconsider the size of the transport's infrastructures. Since 1990, the mobility goals have changed: nowadays, the point is not to know the movement of the people, the real goal is to understand how people appropriate the space. This study highlights the advantages of a survey in which the concept of space is taken into account (because the geographic space is not considered in the current surveys). This reasoning is more adjusted to our society present stakes: the modal fork, or why people change their habits from an individual transport to a collective one. To make this analysis, I have to take an interest in the spatial perceptions and representations of every single person. The goal of this work is to become the potential mobilities apparent, intended to optimize the transport infrastructures. Furthermore, I call the basis of the current transport's surveys into question: I am not in favour of the homo-oeconomicus theory; on the contrary, I think that human's behaviours (and more specifically the spatial behaviours) are not always rational... That is why I choose an approach centered on the individual. Also, the set of problems is how to integrate the geographic space in the transport's surveys, and how to assess the potential mobilities? To address these questions, this presentation is split in three parts. I begin with a conceptual part, about different transport concepts. Then, I evaluate situation of the existing methods surveys in mobility so as to underline the limits. Finally, I suggest some methodological solutions, as a development of a participative survey, and apply them to the students' mobility.
