La coopération française au Kenya : enjeux et contradictions

Abstract : Though Africa is a land of privileged cooperation with France, Kenya and East Africa have been ignored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. French will to invest in Kenya is both recent and clumsy. France, true to its tradition of cooperation developed with the rest of the world, especially with West Africa, first introduced political and cultural relations with Kenya. Bilateral partnerships, development programs, promotion of Francophonie, safeguarding of endangered Kenyan cultures, France multiplies initiatives. But France is still lagging behind in the economical field. There are very few French firms on the Kenyan soil, and France struggles to find itself a spot in an already saturated market. French cooperation strategies that are implemented in Kenya don't match local realities. In a country that far from France usual backyard, logic would dictate that investment in the economical field be the priority. But used to favor political and cultural cooperation, France is now outstripped in Kenya.
