Le pédocentrisme des ONG est-il un ethnocentrisme ?

Abstract : Many Western NGOs attache the utmost importance to children. Whether in their action strategies, in the representation or the legitimation of their interventions, the theme of childhood is recurrent. This submission suggests that this priority reflects a gradual sacralization of childhood in Western societies, and NGOs feed this representation, notably in order to raise funds necessary for the continuity of their actions. However, this practice may be questioned since the study of non-Western societies does not demonstrate the universality of this tropism for the child. NGOs should refrain against any ethnocentric temptation, and copy a model of childhood, thought to be superior, in non Western context, where working, going to school and living in the streets are perceived differently. Furthermore, this paper is intended as an incentive to the participation of movements of working children in defining their own rights, and supports the efforts aimed to promote a new ethical compass for NGO actions.
