Évolution longitudinale des compétences arithmétiques au cours du CE1. Étude des corrélations avec les fonctions cognitives

Abstract : Our aim was to observe, in a longitudinal study, the evolution of arithmetic skills in children from their first (CP) to their second (CE1) year of primary school and to look for determining factors. From a previous study, carried out during their first year, we extracted a sample of 32 of the students who performed either poorly or well in mathematics. These students were tested once again in the course of their second year but this time with standard tests. Results show that, on most tasks, the gap between the average of the weaker students and that of the stronger remains statistically significant. In addition, detailed sub-studies reveal various evolution patterns : most of the weaker children's difficulties remain while the scores of some others reach average.
