Habiletés numériques à l'entrée en maternelle et facteurs prédictifs de leur évolution

Abstract : The basis of this project was to study how young children manage to build a symbolic mathematical system from non-symbolic numerical abilities. 191 questionnaires were administered to children aged 33 to 56 months. Such abilities as language, visual short term memory, verbal short term memory, number discrimination, digital gnosis, arithmetic and counting skills were explored. The results were evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively both in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. The findings highlight spatial short term memory contribution to early mathematical competence. Besides, strategies were found to be different from one child to another. Further large scale studies are needed to confirm the results of this study
