Le salariat un moyen de maintenir l'élevage laitier en Meuse

Abstract : The decreasing farms and workers numbers coupled with an increasing structures size lead to increased workload per labor unit. Some breeders prefer to stop dairy production due to their parents' retirement or because of the dairy activity constraints. Farmers would like more spare time. These farmers must find ways to improve their working conditions. ULM is involved on the subject of work in agriculture to maintain dairy farms in the Meuse. The employment is a way to improve work organization in farms. A survey was conducted among 40 dairy producers to determine their opinion on the employment. Most of them require additional labor. Older farmers seem more inclined to resort to this solution. Young farmers seem more interested in mechanization or delegation. Most of farmers do not know how to seek wage earners and has no clear idea of the profile they need to. To promote employment, support for farmers is necessary to help them in their thinking. Partnership with other agricultural organizations must be established to involve all industry stakeholders. Finally, communication is essential to show that agriculture recruits. Presentations must be made in agricultural colleges and the general public at open days or employment forum.
