Abstract : Background: The practice of voluntary interruptions of pregnancy (abortion) by GPs made to widen the choice of women and improve their access to care. The medical method is recognized as safe and effective, but data on the experiences of patients during their ambulatory period are insufficient. The objective of this study is to further explore the patient lived experience. Methods: Qualitative investigation by semi-structured individual interviews of 18 women completed a medical abortion in ambulatory in the last six months in Ile de France. Analysis with double coding. Sample reasoned and diversifed. Results: The feeling of discovering unwanted pregnancy is influenced by the context contraceptive. Access to abortion, a key determinant of personal feeling is based on the first contact, the number of stakeholders, and knowledge of cares pathways. The role of the physician is dependent on the representation the patient has of the doctor-patient relationship. The choice of the outpatient method based on the proximity and relationship with a single partner. The medical method is described as easier, and allowing the patient to be an actress of abortion. Age and gender are important factors in experienced pain. The doctor is considered as the most appropriate person to address the psychological experience, including at the time of last visit. Conclusion: Exploring factors influencing the experience during the course of abortion allowed to propose ways of improving medical practices.
