Les reliures de Sonia Delaunay

Abstract : Sonia Delaunay was born in 1885 in Ukraine. After a childhood in St Petersburg, Sonia Delaunay decides to learn drawing in Europe, in Germany and Paris where she moves in 1905. In 1910, she marries to Robert Delaunay. Together, they will participate in the birth of abstract art, developing pictorial research on color and light. In this way, they create a new art deprived of figuration and where the color-shape is the subject. Sonia Delaunay composed his works from the color contrast and vibration bet up by them, generating a movement in painting. Sonia Delaunay for which there are no differences between applied arts and fine arts, applied the principle of simultaneous colors on all objects of daily life. So lampshades, carpets, tapestries, wooden chest, binders, fabrics, paintings ... will be decorated by the artist in order to make art into modern life. This essay wants to try to show how the bindings made by Sonia Delaunay mainly during the year 1913 - a pivotal year in the development of abstract art - are an important issue for the development of the work of Sonia Delaunay, but also for other artists.
