Le littoral russe de la Mer Noire : nouvel objet de diplomatie publique pour la Russie. Essai sur l’utilisation de l’espace dans le processus de génération du soft power

Abstract : Even though the concepts of soft power and public diplomacy somehow seem incompatible with the foreign policy led by Russia, the Russian government apparently wants to implement an active strategy regarding this matter. Several tools have already been established, but the Russian state also try to develop a strategy of attraction using a territory : the Black Sea coastline. Having a subtropical climate and an old touristic heritage, this territory breaks down the stereotypes usually connected with Russia. As an example of this strategy, the Russian government has worked to have Sochi hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 2014. However, this policy is facing a wide range of obstacles which is likely to undermine the territorial strategy of Russia.
