Cartographie du manteau neigeux saisonnier dans les Alpes françaises par télédétection optique

Abstract : This work is a part of the CNES’ SPOT 4 Take 5 project. It aims to create a database of snow cover maps (SCA) and fractional snow cover maps (FRA) over the French Alps (year 2013). The set up methodology has to be reproducible. Reflectance images from the satellites SPOT 4, SPOT 6 and Landsat 8 are used. The produced maps will be applied by different partners of the project for thematic applications on the phenology of alpine ecosystems and the energy balance (albedo) at the massif scale. In addition, wide-field images from VGT and MODIS sensors allow the comparison of global and regional data. These images appear as a good alternative to the use of high resolution images for snow mapping. The quality of the final results is correlated with the level of correction applied to the images. This level of correction must be homogeneous between the different scales for consistent comparisons.
