Quelles sont les conséquences bucco-dentaires de la paralysie cérébrale chez l'enfant ? Exemple de l'hémiparésie

Abstract : Over the last few decades, many progresses were done in medical technology allowing the survival of increasingly preterm newborns. This phenomenon increases the incidence of neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy for example. Cerebral palsy is a group of permanent disorders of movement and posture causing activity limitations. It follows a non-progressive damage to the developing brain. It is part of large nosology including hemiparesis. Many studies exist on its etiology, its clinical forms, its impact on organ systems and on the upper and lower limbs. However, few articles appear in the literature regarding the oral health status of cerebral palsied and hemiparetic children. Yet, neuromuscular problems associated with this group of pathologies may affect oral health significantly. Directly, through the changes they cause in the orofacial structures or indirectly, by the development of para-functions, feeding problems an! d difficulties to perform oral health care. The aim of this work is to understand how and to what extent cerbral palsy and his hemiparesis subgroup do affect the child's oral health. And how can the dentist surgeon help to preserve the oral health of these children who have already complicated day care.
