Mise à jour de la cartographie du document d'objectifs (habitats et espèces végétales invasives) du site Natura 2000 « Pointe fauconnière FR9301609 »

Abstract : The training took place over a four months period (April-July 2014) on the Natura 2000 site "Pointe Fauconnière FR9301609" west of the Var coast, in the municipality of St Cyr-sur-Mer in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The site has been designated since 2003 as a Site of Community Interest (SCI). It covers a total area of 764 hectares, covering 532 ha on land and 232 ha at sea, with an extension of 108 hectares of the study area since 2007. The Natural Areas Department of the city of Saint Cyr-sur-Mer is the animator. The natural heritage of the Mediterranean region is subject to progressive coastline urbanization, conducive to biological invasions. These invasions are considered the second biggest threat to biodiversity after habitat destruction, because they represent a major environmental issue. The challenges for managers are to provide knowledge on invasive species and assess their spatial and temporal distribution, in order to achieve an effective and sustainable strategy to the territory. The objective of the study is to update the Objective Document (DOCOB) on the Natura 2000 site in order to establish a long-term management of invasive alien plant species (IAPs) over the long term. The study focuses on the most represented and yhe most problematic invasive plant species on the site, regarding the natural habitats and protected heritage species : Alfalfa arborea (Medicago arborea), American agave (Agave américana), Sour fig (Carpobrotus acinaciformis), Prickly pear (Opuntia stricta) and Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana). Other invasive or potentially invasive species were identified on the site and have also been inventory. The first weeks were devoted to the acquisition of information to improve knowledge on invasive plant species. This research has to draw up a state of the art on IAPs in protected natural areas and shorelines. Field missions have been conducted on the first two months (April-May 2015), organized by a protocol that reveals the presence and absence of IAPs. A database was then developed, thus allowing the geographic distribution mapping of IAPs stations to be updated. Management of invasive alien plant species will require an important work of communication and regular monitoring of the species.
