État des lieux de la chirurgie éveillée pédiatrique : approche orthophonique

Abstract : Today, awake surgery is on the rise but little has been written about it. The aim of our study is threefold: carry out an inventory of awake surgery on children in France, collect linguistic reports to get acquainted with the specific features of these young participants and study patients’ and families’ background. To achieve this, we designed three questionnaires: an enquiry sent to various hospitals practicing awake surgery and two others to examine the patients’ and their families’ quality of life. Results show that the damages on children are different from what is usually found in adults’ lesions. Although tools exist, pre-, intra- and post-operative reports are not full adapted to children. This study shows that specific intervention for young patients is needed and that tools ought to be adapted and standardized.
